Subject: 20 days left or something like thatthis week was complicated. tuesday and wednesday we had mission conferences so we didnt really get to work those days. thursday and friday i was way sick in bed all day and saturday we finally got out and worked for a little bit. im still not feeling 100% but i dont care because i have little time left! i think every missionary can say the same, that towards the end of your mission, your body seems to shut down and get exhausted. its weird. but im still determined to keep going til the end.a scripture i read yesterday is in D&C 123: 13, 14, 17. i have thought a lot about who im going to be after the mission, and what im going to do. i hope to be someone who really lives these versus, to be someone who wears out their life in bringing things to light, and to attend to the most important things in life with diligence and faith. i hope that we can all be a little more like christ in that aspect, exhausting ourselves in the service of god. i know that if we do, we will arrive to the judgment and god will be able to count us in celestial glory. i love you all, ill see you in a few weeks!Elder Barton

this week was hard for various reasons. i have been sick all week which complicated things a bit, my companion snores like a madman and i cant sleep haha our best investigator, candela, is no longer investigating. we had an interesting conversation on tuesday night, and she just isnt ready to change yet... but im honestly still greatful that the lord still thinks im strong enough to keep testing and breaking me, because if the lord thinks i can keep fighting and pushing through, than i haven no doubt that i can to.

> on friday we were knocking doors all morning, and at about 11 oclock we knocked the door of a jehovahs witness. it was a lady, of about 45 years. she was nice and accepting, but if yall know how the jehovahs witnesses are, she didnt share too many of the same beliefs haha but we had a nice conversation. we talked and explained what we do and how the organization of the church is and everything, and then somehow we got on the topic of the restoration. i dont like bible bashing, or arguing with people, so we were sure to keep the conversation very friendly and professional. it was very interesting. i learned a lot about the power that god has given to us, the holy ghost, to be guided and testify of truth. she kept showing me scriptures in the bible of whatever thing that had nothing to do with what we were talking about, and my companion and i noted that she was only blinded by what she had been taught. it was strange to see such a night and day difference of truth, what we have, and confusion, what others think is truth. she hardly let us talk and was very convinced.
>
> after about an hour of listening, not being able to talk or leave haha we turned the tide and used the bible to explain very simple truths that have been distorted thanks to the apostacy. they dont believe god still talks to prophets, so we used the bible and testimony to explain what we know about latter day revelation. we then took out a book of mormon and wanted to give it to her. we shared very strong testimony of the truth of the restoration. in the book of mormon it says that those missionaries taught with power and authority, and thats exactly how we felt. by this time she wasnt saying anything and had almost a scared look on her face. we offered the book of mormon and instantly rejected. we were a little surprised by her reaction, because she seemed like she was afraid that what we were saying was true. we felt as if she knew that the key was in the book of mormon, she knew that if she read it, she wouldnt be able to deny it, so she preferred to stay in darkness. it was a very powerful testimony of the power of the book of mormon. what we felt couldnt be explained, all that can be said is that the book of mormon is real. joseph smith really did see god and christ, and was divinely guided to restore the true gospel and ordinances. with so many spiritual and written evidences, its impossible to deny if put to the test.

we had a good week. we talked with a lot of new people and we found some new investigators. the most important is Candela Pierro, she has a goal of getting baptized on the 15 of august. she is prepared for the gospel, it just depends on how well we nurture the seed, as it explains in alma 32, which i would actually like to talk about a little bit.
i noticed something while teaching this chapter last night. towards the end of the chapter, it says, actually im not sure how it says in english, but something like "looking forward to the fruit with an eye of faith", fruit in this case meaning happiness and understanding. whenever i think of continuing with faith, i usually think of just believing and trusting in christ, but while explaining this concept, my understanding was opened just a little bit. not only to we need to trust in god and the power of the atonement, we need to desire the fruit!! we need goals and righteous desires. no matter how much we believe or trust, i feel that if we dont have our sight fixed on the result, we arent really going to arrive anywhere. if we are talking about baptism, we shouldnt just teach and help people read and strengthen faith, we should do all of that so that they can understand just a little the blessings of being baptized, with is the reception of the holy ghost. preach my gospel even says that we should desire more than anything the companionship of the holy ghost, which is the fruit of baptism. if we can help people desire the companionship of the spirit, its much more sure that they will progress.
whatever trial we have in life, we first need to know if the direction we are going is the most righteous, if the seed is good. then we need to see a fruit, and work diligently and paciently towards obtaining the fruit. diligence and patience are the key to obtaining the fruit. i promise that this "formula" or whatever you want to call it, is designed by god. and with that said, the reward is also godly, which only comes by looking forward to the fruit with an eye of faith. im not sure how much clearer the first principle of the doctrine of christ could be explained, because alma 32 does a pretty good job! we just have to search. i love you all, pray for candela, the fruit is baptism and holy ghost.

hey mom whats up. its way weird that everyone is getting home from their missions haha its unbelievable the time has passed so fast. i only have like 3 months left. my comp and i get along good. he definitely comes from a different culture and stuff like that but we are getting along fine. he keeps telling me how good he feels working with me haha because we are working really hard and he tells me he is excited about the work so thats cool. i know you said youll put money and i dont mean to bug but ive been without money for like 2 weeks haha im going hungry! no not really but a little. i like this area. it seems to always happen like that where you leave an area and then you miss it for a couple of days but then you get used to it. the ward is alright, we are really trying to work with them because it has a lot of potential. either way im happy and im working hard. tell all my friends hi and tell everyone i love them.

so this last week i got special transfered, no idea why. we were out working last wednesday night and the APs called telling me i was leaving that area the next day, really weird and i wasnt expecting that haha but what can i do, im already in my new area! me and this other elder just switched spots, now he is in my old area. i miss it, but im happy to be here, 20 minutes away in Godoy Cruz, right next to where i was in the offices for 6 months... haha its called Villa del Parque, and im with another latin named elder paredes, from buenos aires. he has like 6 months in the mission. classic argentine haha he talks, laughs, and complains just like every other argentine haha its funny if you can imagine an argentina redneck, its my companion! but i like him. he really wants to be a good missionary and i wants to be obedient, so we get along well.

> he only carries a couple weeks in this area, so once again, i am washing.. he knows very little about the area and the members. we found a few new investigators this week, and the members are way cool. they are way willing to help, we have some lessons set up this week with people we talked to, and the members are going to accompany us. inspite the fact that this change was unexpected and i miss my old area, im very excited to work here and see some miracles. i can feel that its going to be a good last 2 transfers of my mission here :) so im excited and trying to stay positive! the lord has put me here for some reason, so i cant complain. i love you all, have a good week!
